Reading and Writing
We are starting a short poetry unit where your child is inferring or guessing what some challenging poems are about. They will have to explain their guesses with evidence from the poem. This poetry unit will focus heavily on comprehension. Your student will also be writing their own inferring poems. We will be using repeating lines, similes and 5 senses details.
Science
We are just starting our unit on sound. The students will be learning how sound is created through vibration. They will have the opportunity to explore different instruments to understand how sound is created. In Music and Art class they will also be creating their own instruments. After we finish our sound unit we will begin our next social studies unit about communities.
First Grade Math
We are just about to finish up Unit 4! This unit focused mainly on measurement, time, and fact power. Your student has been practicing measuring to the nearest inch, telling time to the quarter-hour, and memorizing facts 1-10. Unit 5: Place Value, Number Stories and Basic Facts is coming up next. Please encourage your student to keep practicing their 1-10 facts at home.
Second Grade Math
We are working on unit 6. It focuses primarily on addition and subtraction of two digit numbers. The students will also be introduced to multiplication. It is important that they continue practicing their addition and subtraction facts at home.
Lectoescritura
Estamos terminando nuestra unidad de instructivos en lectura y escritura. Su estudiante ha estado leyendo y escribiendo muchos instructivos diferentes. Estaremos publicando nuestros mejores instructivos esta semana para poner en el pasillo. Como un lector su estudiante se ha estado enfocando en estrategias para averiguar, o inferir, lo que significan las palabras difíciles. Usamos los claves dentro del contexto de una oración y los dibujos para inferir. Después revisamos a ver si nuestra inferencia tiene sentido.
Cuando está leyendo en casa con su estudiante, por favor anímelo a usar estas claves para inferir en vez de saltarse las palabras difíciles.
Matemáticas
Estamos trabajando en la unidad 6 de matemáticas. Esta unidad se enfoca principalmente en la suma y resta de números de dos dígitos. También vamos a introducir la multiplicación. Es importante que los estudiantes sigan practicando las sumas y restas básicas en casa.
Ciencias
Estamos empezando nuestra unidad de sonido. Los alumnos aprenderán sobre cómo se crea el sonido por medio de la vibración. Tendrán la oportunidad de explorar varios tipos de instrumentos para entender cómo se crea el sonido. En las clases de arte y música crearán sus propios instrumentos musicales. Al terminar la unidad de ciencias empezaremos de nuevo con estudios sociales y la unidad de comunidades.
