Second Grade News
Writing
We are working on the routines of writing. We have practiced planning out our writing with a partner and we are working on our writing endurance. We are practicing writing more details in our notebooks. Before we share, we check over our work and fix our mistakes or add in a detail. We are getting better at sharing our writing loud and clear so that everyone can hear.
Reading
We have been practicing responding to the books we read aloud. We are practicing 2 reader’s responses right now in our Reader’s Workshop. So far we have “I’m predicting” and “That reminds me of”. We have been writing predictions or connections in our response notebooks every day!
Science
In science the students will learn about rocks, soil, and water. They will learn to identify different types of rocks and soil and about the water cycle.
Back to School Night!
Back to school night will be from 5:00pm to 6:00pm on September 12th. We will review expectations for homework, attendance, uniforms, and work in class. We’re looking forward to seeing you and answering any questions that you may have.

Home visits
We will be conducting home visits over the course of the school year. We look forward to getting to know you and your children!
Math
We are currently working on Unit 1 in math. It is a review of what the students did in first grade, including time, basic addition and number lines. The next unit will be addition number stories. We are asking students to practice their addition facts at home.
