What’s New in 3rd Grade?
READING:
We are finishing on nonfiction/research in reading unit. After that we will start an author study unit on the author Allen Say. Students will have a chance to study books by Allen Say and find commonalities across texts.
WRITING:
We are working on finishing report writing. Students are learning about the research process. Their reports are on Colorado biographies.
On April 1 we will begin an author study unit in writing. This will connect to our reading author study unit.
MATH:
We are working on fractions in math, it is very important that you give real life examples to your children. Students need to understand a half, fourths and thirds. If you are baking or cooking let your child help and use measuring cups with fractions that include ½, 1/3 and ¼.
TCAP Test This Month!
Third grade will be taking their writing TCAP test on Tuesday 3/12 and Wednesday 3/13. The math TCAP test will be Tuesday 3/19 and Wednesday 3/20. Please make sure that your child has plenty of sleep and a good breakfast. Attendance and punctuality are very important on these days. Students will be receiving a raffle ticket for each day that they are on time. There will be a prize drawing at the end of TCAP. Also, please encourage your child to take their time and work hard on the test.

To help your child have a great day at school please make sure they are eating breakfast and getting a full 8 hours of sleep.
Help in the Home
Please continue to support your child by making sure they do nightly math homework and weekly reading logs.
Please continue to quiz your child on multiplication facts. Review facts families with your child (3 x 5=15, 5×3=15, 15/3=5 and 15/5=3.)
